A total of 30,000 units of affordable homes under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing project (PR1MA) will be built in stages in Perak in efforts to provide a more comfortable life to the people.

The chairman of the PR1MA Malaysia corporation, Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis said the projects would be implemented in every district and major towns in the state including in Ipoh, Taiping, Slim River, Tanjung Malim and Teluk Intan.

“We are still in the preliminary stage of discussions and we expect this project to be completed in the next several years,” he said.

He disclosed this to reporters after the launching of the PR1MA Teluk Intan by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Dataran Menara Condong, here today.

Jamaluddin said the houses would be sold to eligible applicants at a price ranging from RM100,000 to RM150,000 depending on the size and location of the houses.

He said the project offered several appropriate schemes to the eligible applicants including the hire-purchase scheme which enabled the people in the state to own homes.

“The are schemes for those earning below RM2,000 or RM3,000 per month and I believe this project can fulfill the aspirations of the middle-income group,” he said.

He said the government was committed to build houses which cost 20 per cent lower than the market price although the cost of building materials was escalating.

The PR1MA Malaysia corporation was set up under the PR1MA Act 2012 to implement a comprehensive and extensive programme to build affordable homes for the middle-income earners living in urban areas in the country.
