BUTTERWORTH — Some 150,565 people who received the 1Malaysia People’s Assistance Programme (BR1M) nationwide are also receiving an aid from the Welfare Department (JKM), said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Mohamed Nor Yakcob.

He said they automatically qualified as most of them were poor or disabled people.

“We provide assistance regardless of political affiliation or whether they are recipients of aid from JKM,” he told reporters after attending a1Azam and BR1M presentation ceremony at the Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament’s service centre, here today.

At the event, 145 people received BR1M while 28 people were 1Azam recipients.

Nor Mohamed, who is also Tasek Gelugor MP, noted that 6,889 of BR1M recipients in Penang were also recipients of aid from JKM. — Bernama
