Budget 2015 Focuses On Upgrading Status Of Rural Community
The main focus of Budget 2015 is to upgrade the status of the rural community such as farmers, fishermen and livestock breeders.
Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said RM6 billion has been allocated to enhance the food supply chain and help the rural community to raise their income.
“Most of the allocation will go towards developing the rural community,” he said when launching the Road To MAHA 2014 campaign here, today.
Ismail said the budget tabled in parliament yesterday shows the government also wants to empower the rural community via health, education and public transport.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Najib outlined four initiatives to improve the status of the rural community.
The first initiative is the creation of 65 permanent Pasar Tani and 50 Pasar Ikan from 2015 to 2017 while the second initiative is to introduce auction of quality vegetables at affordable prices in 85 locations.
The third initiative is to boost the cultivation of fruit trees such as durian, mangosteen, langsat and rambutan.
The fourth initiative is to provide matching grants of RM100 million to Farmers’ Organisation Authority to enable members to make loans to increase productivity and improve the marketing network.
