The Penang Federal Action Council hopes the DAP-led Penang government will approve seven housing projects involving over 4,000 affordable houses for the sake of the people.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said several disputed issues by the state government previously had been clarified in a meeting with state Housing and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo last December.

He said among the matters discussed were land issues and home prices proposed by the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) and JKP Sdn Bhd.

“Since 2001, the federal government through its agencies had submitted plans to develop 15 housing projects involving 9,500 houses in Penang but until today none have been approved.

“In the meeting, Jagdeep wanted to amend eight of the projects, but I asked for seven projects (approved) as they fulfilled the conditions required,” he told reporters here today.
