The 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA) will be expanded to Kulim Hi-Tech Park and Langkawi in a bid to ensure that the target to build 20,000 affordable houses under the PR1MA scheme in Kedah will be achieved.

PR1MA Corporation chairman Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis said 711 affordable houses would be built at two locations in Kulim Hi-Tech Park, while 2,160 other houses would be built in Langkawi with the cooperation from the Langkawi Development Authority.

“The project will begin in August and we are in the midst of discussing with the state government to identify other areas with high demand for PR1MA houses,” he said after visiting the PR1MA project site here.

Jamaluddin said PR1MA had so far acquired 151.2 hectares of land in Sungai Petani, Kuala Ketil and Langkawi to build affordable houses for the people.

“So far, the construction of 2,744 houses in Sungai Petani and 323 others in Kuala Ketil is ongoing and we expect the first phase of this project to be completed within 18 months from now,” he said.

He said the number of applications for PR1MA house in Kedah had reached 8,000 so far, 4,300 of which were for houses in Sungai Petani area.
