Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem launched the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) updated disability assessment guideline manual here last Tuesday.

He said the “Guidelines on Impairment and Disability Assessment on Traumatic Injuries, Occupational Diseases and Invalidity” manual was a follow up of the earlier two editions which have been in use since 2003 and included several improvements.

“The guidelines are based on the latest disability assessment concepts or models. It is based on medical evidence and the International Classification of Function, Disability and Health standards by the World Health Organisation.

“The disability assessment is not merely physical but also focuses on the ability of an individual to participate in daily activity both in the community and employment sector,” he said during the launch of the manual at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Riot expressed hope that the manual would reduce complaints from the people and enhance the quality of delivery and management system of the Socso Panel Doctors conference.

Riot’s speech was delivered by his deputy Datuk Ismail Abd Muttalib.

The manual is effective from June 1 with 1,500 copies to be distributed to hospitals, medical consultants and other relevant parties.
