The Government through the Penang Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) has allocated RM500,000 this year, to be distributed to 50 household in the state, under the 1Azam Tani aid programme that is aimed to end poverty.

Its Director Habibah Sulaiman said so far, five participants had received assistance and attended briefing and courses for 1Azam Tani aid Programme.

“The rest of the participants for the programme have been identified. This is one of the federal government’s efforts to help the poor.

“Through this programme, Fama is also involved in improving the knowledge, skills and competence of target groups through human capital development courses and technical training,” he told reporters after presenting equipments at a ceremony for the 1Azam Tani programme in Sungai Acheh, here, today.

Habibah said from 2010 to 2012, a total of 99 participants from the state had received 1Azam Tani aid of which 74 managed to increase their income.

“Based on what we have monitored, 74 participants managed to come out of the clutches of poverty and earned additional income of up to RM1,000 per month. This is what the government wants and with the continuous guidance we hope their income will continue to increase,” she said.

Meanwhile, one of the recipient Mat Shah Shafee, 38, who was a food seller said the aid he received today could be used as a supplement for his family’s income as the equipment and tools were complete and better than the existing ones.

Mat Shah received equipment such as fridge, stove, pots, pans and dining table worth RM10,000.
