GEORGE TOWN: Thousands of recipients of 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M 2.0) who received approval letters dated April 3 are lining up for their vouchers at Menara Boustead in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah here every day.

The recipients are from the batch that applied for the aid earlier this year.

An officer, who did not wish to be named, said the queues tend to grow longer after lunch.

“It’s quieter in the mornings. Recipients should consider dropping by before lunch for faster service,” she said, adding that the distribution centre has a record of about 10,000 recipients for this batch.

Loh Kui Chin, 58, said he was very glad with the speedy approval and did not expect to get it so soon.

“I missed last year’s BR1M because I didn’t know how to apply. My friends helped me to apply this year, and I was so happy when I received the approval letter,” he said.

However, restaurant operator Kevin Teoh, 29, who also received his BR1M yesterday, said the recipients were less orderly than previously.

“This time, I see many recipients trying to claim the aid on behalf of their parents or siblings, when we are supposed to collect our own BR1M aid.”

The distribution centre will be open from Monday to Friday until May 3 from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

On the mainland, recipients can collect their vouchers at the lobby of Wisma Persekutuan (ground floor) in Kepala Batas.
