As part of SME Bank’s ongoing endeavours to nurture women entrepreneurs, the bank has introduced the Top Women Entrepreneurs Award. This award programme is intended for women entreprenuers who meet a set of qualifying criteria which will entitle them to the award and the bank’s appropriate financial and advisory assistance. The objective of the Top Women Entrepreneurs Award programme is to give recognition to successful women entrepreneurs from the targeted industries based on their contribution to the industry and community and in turn encourage new women entrepreneurship and increase women entrepreneurs’ contribution to the economy.

The first Top Women Entrepreneurs Award organised by the bank was held on 8th April 2011 and launched by YABhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor at the SME Bank’s Auditorium, Level, Menara SME Bank.

A total of 140 nominations from SME Bank branches all over the country were received for the award. These nominations were narrowed down to 20 entrepreneurs, out of which 8 were finalised based on the selection criteria. The 8 most deserving top women entrepreneurs selected for the award were:

  • Puan Adilah Shuib (PS Poly Plastic (M) Sdn Bhd)
  • Puan Anita Mohamed (Anita Fragrance Cosmetic Laboratory)
  • Puan Zaiton Md Yusof (NZ Food Supplier)
  • Puan Norhayati Md Taib (Malaysian Agri Hi-Tech Sdn Bhd)
  • Puan Hjh Faiza Bawumi Sayed Ahmad (Syarikat Faiza Sdn Bhd)
  • Puan Adibah Mohamad (Tadika Anakku Sayang)

The selection criteria for the Top Women Entrepreneurs Award are:

  • Consistent expansion of market share
  • Active involvement in educating and sharing business knowledge with other women entrepreneurs and community
  • Successful products products or delivered services under own brand name
  • Able to penetrate the market
  • Former cottage business which has significantly grown in market
  • Continuous efforts on product research & development
  • Successful in business which are dominated by men eg: construction, technical, etc
  • Significant socioeconomic contribution to the community
  • Grown from SME bank factory scheme (KKB) and expanded into successful household brand
